Marvelous Mademoiselle Mars’s legacy lives on. Right here before us stands the Hu00f4tel de Mademoiselle Mars a testament to Parisian elegance and theatrical history. This elegant building at 1 rue de la Tour-des-Dames and 7 rue de La Rochefoucauld in the 9th arrondissement whispers tales of a bygone era.

The Hu00f4tel de Mademoiselle Mars wasn’t always associated with the famous actress. Initially built in 1820 it was commissioned by Marshal Laurent de Gouvion-Saint-Cyr. The architect Louis Visconti a name synonymous with Parisian grandeur crafted this masterpiece. Gouvion-Saint-Cyr however sold the Hu00f4tel de Mademoiselle Mars in 1824. The buyer? The legendary Mademoiselle Mars herself.

Mademoiselle Mars a celebrated actress of the Comu00e9die-Franu00e7aise graced its rooms. She transitioned from the classical plays of Moliu00e8re and Marivaux to embrace the emerging Romantic movement. Her triumphs in plays like Dumas’s Henri II et sa cour and Hugo’s Hernani cemented her place in theatrical history. The Hu00f4tel de Mademoiselle Mars became a hub for Parisian high society and artistic circles.

Visconti’s design extended beyond the exterior. The interior boasts a magnificent entrance hall with stunning stucco columns. This hall has been meticulously restored to its original glory. The process involved painstaking work including the revival of hand-painted wallpapers. The restoration project completed in 1985 was led by architect Michel Mimran. He utilized traditional methods ensuring authenticity.

After Mademoiselle Mars’s departure the Hu00f4tel de Mademoiselle Mars changed hands several times. It passed to the Comte de Sassenay then to Napoleon Berthier Prince of Wagram. Its original entrance on rue Saint-Lazare and a grand garden featuring a fountain are now gone. The garden was later subdivided. The garden facade remains visible from rue La Rochefoucauld. Its three large arched bays supported by Ionic columns are a breathtaking sight. The antique vases atop the corniced console add a touch of classical charm.

Today the Hu00f4tel de Mademoiselle Mars remains a private residence. It stands as a silent yet powerful tribute to a remarkable actress and a testament to the architectural heritage of Paris. The Hu00f4tel de Mademoiselle Mars is more than just bricks and mortar. It is a living embodiment of Parisian history. It showcases the city’s rich theatrical past and architectural splendor. The Hu00f4tel de Mademoiselle Mars stands as a reminder of the enduring legacy of Mademoiselle Mars. It is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered.
