Built in 1892 for Henri Le Tonnelier de Breteuil, the Hôtel de Breteuil was designed by the renowned architect Ernest Sanson. Imagine elegant soirees and intellectual gatherings taking place within these walls. Interestingly, the Hôtel de Breteuil even hosted a historical chess match in 1858. American chess prodigy Paul Morphy faced off against Adolf Anderssen. Morphy’s victory was so decisive that Anderssen’s repeated use of an unusual opening during the match led to it being named after him.
