We are standing before one of Mexico’s oldest medical institutions. The Hospital Nacional Homeopático was founded in 1893 by General Porfirio Díaz.

President Díaz suffered from a war wound. Dr. Joaquín Segura y Pesado treated him with homeopathy. Amazed by the results Díaz ordered the creation of this hospital. It was built in an old gunpowder warehouse from the viceroyalty. This location was then at the edge of Mexico City.

Just two years after its opening the Escuela Nacional de Medicina Homeopática was founded. This made it one of the first hospital schools in the country. Over the years the Hospital Nacional Homeopático grew in prestige. It expanded its services to include deliveries surgery and emergency care.

The Hospital Nacional Homeopático is on Chimalpopoca 135. It’s not far from the Pino Suárez Metro station. Today the Hospital Nacional Homeopático is the largest homeopathic hospital in Latin America. It offers general and specialized medical care. Both homeopathic and conventional therapies are used. These services are offered at affordable costs.

Mexico is one of the few countries that officially supports homeopathy. In 1943 the Secretaría de Salubridad y Asistencia was created. The Hospital Nacional Homeopático became one of its founding institutions. Qualified doctors prescribe homeopathic treatments here. Some are certified specialists. Homeopathy can be used alone or with conventional treatments.

The current building isn’t particularly beautiful. It’s a large white concrete structure. However the original facade still exists in the central garden. The Hospital Nacional Homeopático provides various services. These include external consultation general surgery internal medicine and gynecology. You can also find ophthalmology dental pediatrics and psychology services.

In the last year the Hospital Nacional Homeopático provided over 11000 consultations. It performed 674 surgeries. It also attended to more than 2600 emergencies. New facilities have recently opened. These include a clinic for wounds and a clinic for infusion therapy.

Anyone can receive treatment at the Hospital Nacional Homeopático. You just need to bring your identification. The external consultation area has 28 offices. Care is provided in the morning and afternoon Monday through Friday.

Keep in mind that homeopathy’s effectiveness is debated. However the Hospital Nacional Homeopático continues to offer these treatments. It combines them with conventional medicine.
