In 1929, a dream began to take shape in Montevideo. A group of young Christians, fueled by compassion and a vision of service, founded the Mutualista Hospital Evangélico. Their dream? To build a hospital that would serve the community, embodying the words of Jesus: “I have not come to be served, but to serve.” For three decades, they worked tirelessly, raising funds brick by brick, until their dream materialized on September 14, 1964, with the inauguration of Hospital Evangélico. This six-story, 6,300-square-meter building at Bulevar José Batlle y Ordóñez 2759 has become a vital part of Montevideo’s healthcare landscape. From its humble beginnings, Hospital Evangélico has grown into a modern medical facility, equipped to handle a wide range of medical needs. The hospital’s layout is a testament to its comprehensive services. The basement houses maintenance and supply services, while the ground floor bustles with activity. Here, you’ll find the Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Center, the Emergency Room, the Ambulatory Medical Center, Imaging, Transfusion Medicine, and administrative offices. As you ascend to the first floor, you’ll discover the Adult Intensive Care Center, the Specialized Medicine Unit, and surgical and medical wards, with separate areas for adults and a waiting area for companions. The second floor is home to the surgical block, complete with operating rooms and a recovery area, as well as the delivery room, pediatric wards, and private rooms for gynecology and obstetrics patients. The third floor houses more surgical and medical wards, and a Central Materials Center directly connected to the surgical block. Beyond the main building, annexes house outpatient services such as physiotherapy, pediatrics, cardiology, hemodialysis, neuro-pediatrics, and psychomotor rehabilitation for children and adolescents. Hospital Evangélico is more than just a building. It is a testament to the enduring power of a dream, a place where compassion and cutting-edge medicine meet.
