Surgical services with scheduled operations and inpatient care didn’t begin until 1949. The building itself is quite impressive. A rectangular structure 120 meters long and 15 meters wide it has a basement ground floor and nine upper floors. Three vertical circulation cores are key features. The central one serves the public. The lateral cores support hospital services. Close to these cores are the outpatient clinics ambulance entrance and first aid rooms.
Imagine the skilled surgeons and dedicated staff who’ve served within these walls for over seventy years. Eleven different chiefs have headed the General Surgery Department. Three were academics three were professors at the University of Buenos Aires. Since 1967 a residency program has driven the department’s progress. The Argentine Association of Surgery even recognized the hospital for its achievements. A 1975 graduating class included notable figures like Juan C Crosbie Eduardo Huertas Julián Moreno and Néstor Mazzarelli.
