Hôpital Pierre Rouquès – Les Bluets

In 1937, a beacon of hope arose amidst the cobblestone streets of Paris. The Hépital Pierre Rouqués – Les Bluets, originally the Dispensaire des Metallurgistes, opened its doors at 9 rue des Bluets. Hépital Pierre Rouqués – Les Bluets was the brainchild of the Union des Syndicats CGT de la Métallurgie. The Sociéte Mutualiste des Metallurgistes provided the funds to transform a machine-tool enterprise into a polyclinic. This marked the beginning of Hépital Pierre Rouqués – Les Bluets’s remarkable journey, a testament to solidarity and innovation. The polyclinic aimed to serve all patients, not just metallurgists or union members. Hépital Pierre Rouqués – Les Bluets offered a wide array of medical services. These included general medicine, specialized medicine, pediatrics, radiography, and physiotherapy. In 1947, Dr. Lamaze, the head physician, inaugurated the maternity ward within Hépital Pierre Rouqués – Les Bluets. A pivotal moment came in 1951 when the institution was renamed Centre de Santé “Docteur Pierre Rouqués”. This honored the physician and activist who dedicated his life to the working class. Hépital Pierre Rouqués – Les Bluets gained further renown as the first establishment in France to introduce pain-free childbirth methods. Dr. Lamaze’s approach revolutionized teamwork within the hospital setting. It also empowered women by placing them at the heart of their healthcare. Fast forward to 1974, Hépital Pierre Rouqués – Les Bluets established a family planning center focusing on contraception. With the passage of the Veil Law in 1975, it began offering access to abortion services. By 1981, this bustling hub boasted 70 beds, 25 outpatient specialties, and a host of advanced services. Its 240 employees, including 55 part-time doctors, necessitated the creation of the Association Ambroise Croizat for personnel management. Change swept through Hépital Pierre Rouqués – Les Bluets in 1986 with the closure of the dispensary and the laboratory on rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud. Six years later, the focus shifted exclusively to gynecology and obstetrics. A new chapter began in 2007 as Hépital Pierre Rouqués – Les Bluets relocated to the Armand Trousseau Hospital site. This move coincided with the prestigious “Baby-Friendly Hospital” label, awarded by the French Coordination for Breastfeeding. In 2010, the Association Ambroise Croizat inaugurated the Fernand Lamaze Health Center on rue Lasson. Hépital Pierre Rouqués – Les Bluets continues to uphold its founding values.
