The building is permanently occupied by two people, and its refurbishment focused on natural, low-VOC materials. Holyrood Lodge underwent a significant transformation with its 2017 renovation, using cellulose insulation blown in behind the existing plaster lining. The original single-glazed casement windows from 1995 were carefully preserved. New, slim-profile double-glazed units were installed, maintaining the building’s historic charm while improving energy efficiency. The renovation also saw the installation of infrared heating panels, a modern touch in a historic setting. These panels are portable and easy to install, minimizing disruption to the building’s fabric. Holyrood Lodge’s transformation didn’t stop there. The renovation reinstated traditional natural ventilation, including vents in the former hearths and reopening previously sealed windows.
