Has anyone ever told you about the secrets hidden within Holyrood Park? Right here at Holyrood Lodge, there’s more than meets the eye. This unassuming two-story lodge, nestled at 140 Holyrood Road, isn’t just a pretty face. It’s a Category B listed building, a testament to its regional importance. Holyrood Lodge has witnessed the passage of time, undergoing renovations in 1995 and again in 2017. Today, the ground floor welcomes the public with a shop and orientation center for Holyrood Park. But what about the upper floor? That’s where the real mystery lies. Access is granted only by arrangement, shrouding the upper level in an air of intrigue. Perhaps it holds historical archives, or maybe even the remnants of a secret society. Imagine the stories these walls could tell. Holyrood Lodge also boasts some impressive eco-credentials. The building is permanently occupied by two people, and its refurbishment focused on natural, low-VOC materials. The exterior exposes the beautiful stonework, while inside, plastered walls add a touch of elegance. The pitched roof, a classic architectural feature, completes the lodge’s charming aesthetic. Holyrood Lodge underwent a significant transformation with its 2017 renovation, using cellulose insulation blown in behind the existing plaster lining. The original single-glazed casement windows from 1995 were carefully preserved. New, slim-profile double-glazed units were installed, maintaining the building’s historic charm while improving energy efficiency. The renovation also saw the installation of infrared heating panels, a modern touch in a historic setting. These panels are portable and easy to install, minimizing disruption to the building’s fabric. Holyrood Lodge’s transformation didn’t stop there. The renovation reinstated traditional natural ventilation, including vents in the former hearths and reopening previously sealed windows. This thoughtful approach ensures the building’s health while providing excellent indoor air quality. The project’s total cost was £65,942.80. This investment has breathed new life into Holyrood Lodge, preserving its history while ensuring a sustainable future. So next time you visit Holyrood Park, take a moment to appreciate Holyrood Lodge. It’s more than just a building. It’s a gateway to the past, a testament to innovative renovation, and a hidden gem waiting to be discovered.
