“Come Worship with Us!” The words beckon from a faded sign, hanging slightly askew above the entrance to Holy Cross Baptist Church. This house of worship, a steadfast presence on West 120th Street in Chicago, has been a beacon for the community since its founding. Its humble exterior, a testament to resilience and faith, whispers tales of countless services, baptisms, and shared moments of joy and sorrow. The heart of Holy Cross Baptist Church is not just its sturdy walls but the people who have found solace and fellowship within them. Founded and led by Reverend Elmer Spraggins Sr., the church is a testament to the vibrant spirit of the South Side community. It is a place where generations have gathered, their voices blending in hymns and prayers, their spirits uplifted by the unwavering support they find in one another. Holy Cross Baptist Church is more than just a building; it is a gathering place, a source of strength, and a constant reminder of the enduring power of faith. Every Sunday, its doors open wide, inviting all to join the chorus of voices praising the Lord and finding hope in shared faith.
