Høegholm Manor. A seemingly simple name for a place steeped in centuries of history. Høegholm, once known as Bjørnholm, stands proudly along the A15 highway. It’s nestled between Aarhus and Grenå, a mere 8 kilometers northeast of Aarhus Airport. Don’t let the 1888 main building fool you. Høegholm’s roots trace back to 1331, whispering tales of a time long past. Imagine the figures who have walked these grounds. From Anders Stigsen Hvide, the earliest known owner before 1331, to the current owners, Christian and Linda M ønsted Schmidt. The estate spans 320 hectares, showcasing the enduring legacy of Høegholm. In 1787, Høegholm bustled with life. A census revealed a diverse community residing within its walls. From the General Lieutenantinde, Pauline de Sehested, to the humble kitchen maid, each played a part in Høegholm’s story. A later census in 1850 painted a similar picture. Morten Kirketerp, the lord of the manor, and his wife, Ida Elisabeth, presided over a household of servants, children, and even a teacher. Life at Høegholm continued through the centuries. Today, Høegholm stands as a testament to the passage of time. The manor’s history is intertwined with the land. It’s a story of noble families, dedicated servants, and the changing face of Denmark. As you stand before Høegholm, let its long history wash over you.
