Remember the year 2001? That was when Hillgrove Secondary School first opened its doors. It started with just 277 pupils.
Hillgrove Secondary School is a government co-educational school. You will find it in Bukit Batok New Town Singapore. More precisely it is at 10 Bukit Batok Street 52.
Mr Ang Mong Seng had a vision. He wanted a secondary school for Bukit Gombak residents. Hillgrove Secondary School was the result of this vision.
Initially Hillgrove shared a campus. They operated with Yusof Ishak Secondary School. But on 2 February 2002 Hillgrove moved. It moved to its current location. The official opening happened on 5 March 2004. By then 1500 students attended the school. The staff consisted of 90 people. Hillgrove celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2011.
The school has had several principals. Mdm Thoo Mei Lan was the first. She served from 2000 to 2002. Mrs Yeow Lee Lin then took over. Her term lasted from 2002 to 2008. Mr Kenneth Lee Tee Chong followed. He led from 2008 to 2015. Mrs Angeline Chan was principal from 2015 to 2021. Since 2022 Mdm Lee Ching Guan Helen has been the principal. The current Principal is Mrs Helen Tan. The Vice-Principal is Mr Chan Huan Jian Malvin.
Hillgrove Secondary School has a motto. It is “United We Soar”. This reflects the school’s vision.
The school crest shows intertwined tree trunks. These represent the link between teachers and students. The trees stand on a hill slope. This refers to the school’s name. Eighteen leaves form a large crown. This symbolizes growth and unity.
Hillgrove Secondary School believes in potential. They build character. They help students to succeed. The school’s vision is clear. It wants reflective learners. It wants adaptive thinkers. It wants caring changemakers. Hillgrove wants students to learn care and make a difference.
Hillgrove was awarded for academic performance. The school received the MOE Academic Value-added Silver Award. This was for the GCE O Level Examination performance.
Hillgrove also excels in sports. They were first Runner-up for C Div Volleyball. This was at the West Zone Inter-school Volleyball Championships 2007.
Hillgrove Secondary School is more than just a school. It is a community. It is a place where students grow. They learn. They prepare for the future.
