Green Hill Lake is near the Western Highway. It’s only a minute’s drive away. Yet you’ll feel miles away once you’re here. This makes Green Hill Lake the perfect rest stop.
Green Hill Lake is known for changing quickly. Sometimes it is full and great for swimming. Other times, it’s shallow and the water recedes. The lake’s shallowness makes it evaporate fast. Catch it when the water level is high for a good swim.
Camping is a big plus at Green Hill Lake. Imagine stepping out of your tent and cooling your feet in the lake just 20 steps away. Camping is free. Donations help maintain the facilities. These donations have built the shaded playground for kids.
There are two designated beaches here. One is at the southern end. The other is at the eastern end. Swimming outside these areas is not allowed because of boats. Entry into the lake is gradual. Expect coarse sand for the first 10 meters. Deeper water has smooth mud. Spiny rush grows around the edge. The southernmost beach near the boat ramp is better for swimming. The management committee reduces the spiny rush there.
Green Hill Lake offers more than just swimming. It’s stocked with fish for fishing enthusiasts. Boating, jetskiing and canoeing are also popular.
Remember a few things before you visit Green Hill Lake. Dogs must be on leads. Horses are only allowed on roads. Fires are only permitted in fireplaces. No glass is allowed. Collecting firewood is prohibited.
Green Hill Lake has facilities for everyone. You’ll find a boat ramp and toilets. There’s also a campground and a playground. Park benches and showers are available. Sheltered barbecues and fireplaces are provided. Outdoor exercise equipment is here too.
