Remember the year 1924. That was the year Highline High School first opened its doors. Highline High School served Burien, Des Moines, and White Center. At that time, it was the only high school in the area.

Highline High School got its name from the original name for Des Moines Memorial Drive. It was once called the High Line Road. This was because of its location on the ridge between Puget Sound and the Miller Creek Valley. Today, Highline represents the area of Burien, SeaTac, Des Moines, and White Center.

Highline High School is the flagship high school of the Highline Public Schools district. It stands about 3.5 miles from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

For two years, from 2019 to 2021, Highline High School students went to school at the Olympic Interim School. This was while the original Highline High School buildings were being rebuilt. The original 1924 structure was demolished. New buildings were built in their place.

Highline High School participates in many sports. These include baseball, basketball, and football. They also include golf, gymnastics, soccer, and swimming. Highline is a member of the KingCo 2A conference.

Many notable people attended Highline High School. Ray Conner was the former vice chairman of Boeing. Ingrid Backstrom was a freestyle skier. Mike Starr played bass for Alice in Chains. Shelley Lynn Thornton was known as the Roe Baby. Brad Tilden became the CEO of Alaska Airlines.

Adjacent to Highline High School is the Highline Performing Arts Center. Local groups use it. These include community organizations, schools, and dance competition companies.

Highline High School has a rich history. A series of 18 history panels were installed when the new school building opened in September 2021. The school story began in 1924. The story continues with today’s students.

Highline High School’s mascot is the Pirate. The school colors are purple and gold. The school newspaper is the Pirate’s Anchor. The school aims to prepare every student for the future they choose. Highline High School is a place of tradition, sports, academics, and community.
