In the heart of Istanbul, nestled within the bustling Beyoğlu district, stands the Hicret Camii. This mosque, whose name translates to “Migration Mosque,” holds a unique story. Hicret Camii’s tale begins not in ancient times, but in 1985. A dedicated group, the Hicret Camii Construction and Maintenance Association, laid the foundation stone. Thanks to the generosity of local residents, the mosque rose steadily. By 1990, the Hicret Camii opened its doors to worshippers. The Hicret Camii isn’t your typical single-story mosque. It’s a five-story building. The mosque’s mihrab, the niche indicating the direction of Mecca, is adorned with beautiful Kütahya tiles. Its minber, the pulpit from which sermons are delivered, is crafted from fine Kürsü wood. The interior walls are clad in warm wood paneling. A single, elegant minaret reaches towards the sky. Each floor of the Hicret Camii serves a purpose. The ground floor houses the ablution area and a şadırvan, a fountain for ritual cleansing. The first floor provides a community space and a small library. The main prayer hall occupies the second floor. The third floor hosts a Quranic course for girls. The fourth and fifth floors are dedicated to Quranic studies. An Imam Hatip leads the prayers and services at the Hicret Camii. However, the mosque doesn’t have an on-site residence for the Imam. The Hicret Camii stands as a testament to community spirit and dedication. It’s a modern mosque serving the spiritual needs of its neighbourhood. This five-story structure is more than just a place of worship. It is a vibrant hub of learning and community gathering. It is a symbol of faith, resilience, and the ongoing story of Istanbul.
