Established in 1786 HF-Centret Efterslægten boasts a rich history. It began as a school for Copenhagen’s children. Its founders believed in education for the benefit of future generations. Their motto Non nobis or Not for ourselves reflects this vision. The school aimed to create useful citizens skilled in both academics and practical life. Early teaching included drawing physical training and modern languages. Rote learning and corporal punishment were avoided. Imagine young Adam Oehlenschlæger a famous Golden Age poet attending these classes. He later described his time here with great satisfaction. The school originally housed in a beautiful Renaissance building on Østergade. This building was unfortunately demolished in 1913 to make way for the Illum department store. This demolition surprisingly spurred efforts to create a building preservation law. HF-Centret Efterslægten moved to its current location in 1940. Its modern buildings blend tradition and innovation. The school offers a two-year higher preparatory examination program. It also provides single-subject courses and online learning options. Around 700 students attend. Their ages range from 17 to 70. The staff includes approximately 100 teachers. The school’s average grade is among the highest in Denmark. It’s a testament to its excellent teaching and the dedication of its staff. Today HF-Centret Efterslægten continues its mission. It aims to equip students with academic personal and social skills. These skills prepare them for further studies and life as responsible citizens. It truly embodies the spirit of its founders’ vision. A place where learning is fun and serious. HF-Centret Efterslægten a testament to enduring educational excellence.
