Before 1022 Herstedøster Parish belonged to Roskilde Stift. Between 1537 and 1922 it was part of Sjælland Stift. From 1922 to 1960 it belonged to København. Since 1961 it has been under Helsingør.

The priest’s farm suffered fires in 1704 and 1813. The 1704 fire destroyed parish records. Fortunately Herstedøster’s records survived the second fire. So Herstedøster boasts records from 1703. Herstedvester only has records from 1814.

Herstedøster has traditionally been connected with Herstedvester. They once shared a pastor. This reflects a close community bond. This area is rich in history.

Today Herstedøster Church welcomes visitors. It invites all to appreciate its history. Its walls have witnessed centuries of change. It is a beautiful building that is steeped in history.
