Closed for over two decades. That’s the present reality of Hermosa-Salem United Methodist Church. Hermosa-Salem United Methodist Church once stood at 2056 North Tripp Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. It served the community as a place of worship and fellowship. Hermosa-Salem United Methodist Church was part of a larger network of Methodist churches in Chicago. There were approximately 72 Methodist churches in the city at one time. The church adhered to the teachings of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism. Their doctrines included the Bible, the Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church, and the Twenty-five Articles of Religion. John Wesley’s emphasis on shunning evil, performing kind acts, and abiding by God’s edicts shaped the Methodist way of life. Sadly, Hermosa-Salem United Methodist Church closed its doors on January 1, 2003. Its story, though ended, remains a part of Chicago’s rich religious history.
