“Is it true that this university conducted the first face transplant in Turkey?” a student asked, her eyes wide with fascination. We find ourselves today at the Hemşirelik Fakültesi, a part of the renowned Akdeniz University in Antalya. This faculty, dedicated to the ever-evolving field of nursing, has a relatively recent history compared to its parent institution. While Akdeniz University was established in 1982, the Hemşirelik Fakültesi came into existence much later. Its journey began in 1997 as the Antalya Sağlık Yüksek Okulu Hemşirelik Bölümü, a dedicated nursing department within a health college. For fifteen years, it diligently nurtured nursing students, witnessing the graduation of 1243 aspiring healthcare professionals. Then in 2012, a pivotal moment arrived. A decree formalized the department’s transformation into a full-fledged faculty – the Hemşirelik Fakültesi as we know it today. This transition marked the university’s commitment to strengthening and recognizing the crucial role of nursing in healthcare.
