Journey back over 800 years with me to Heilshoop. This village carries a history richer than one might expect. Heilshoop lies nestled in the northern part of the Amt Nordstormarn district. It is conveniently located between the communities of Zarpen and Mönkhagen.
Heilshoop’s story is deeply entwined with a unique landscape feature. Picture a medieval scene. Cistercian monks in the 12th century shaped the very heart of Heilshoop. They created a “Moorteich” or moor pond.
Centuries later, the Moorteich defines Heilshoop. Today, the pond is still used for fish farming. In summer, the Heilshoop pond transforms into a beloved public bathing spot. Locals and visitors alike flock here to cool off. When winter arrives, the pond freezes over. It offers a perfect setting for ice skating.
Imagine Heilshoop in 1987. The Landesstrasse 71 that runs through Heilshoop underwent significant upgrades. These improvements considered more than just cars. A combined bicycle and footpath was created. Now pedestrians and cyclists could safely navigate the area.
Even with modernization, Heilshoop retains its village charm. The community offers essential amenities. It still feels like a close-knit village. The Gemeinschaftshaus, or community center, provides a space for gatherings. Locals meet here for social events and celebrations.
Families in Heilshoop prioritize education. Elementary school children attend school in Zarpen. It is just two kilometers away. Older students have several options in Reinfeld. The Immanuel-Kant-Schule offers all three types of secondary education. A special needs school is also available. For even more options, the city of Lübeck provides various schools including gymnasiums.
Since 1997, Heilshoop boasts a well-equipped kindergarten under church administration. In 2012, the kindergarten expanded. A new crèche was inaugurated. It provides 15 places for children of mixed ages. This supports families with children under and over three years old.
Getting around from Heilshoop is easy. Public transportation offers good connections to Reinfeld and the Hanseatic City of Lübeck. This ensures residents can access larger urban centers. Heilshoop may be small. It provides a rich history, community spirit, and connection to both nature and nearby towns.
