“A marketplace of encounter,” whispered the old woman next to me, her eyes sparkling with a hint of mischief. I turned, startled, but she was gone. Had I imagined her words? They seemed to echo the spirit of the Heilig-Geist-Kirche, a church that has borne witness to the changing tides of time. Built in 1964, the Heilig-Geist-Kirche served as a beacon of faith for the community. However, time took its toll and in 2019, the once-proud tower, deemed beyond repair, had to be demolished. Yet, from the ashes of the old rose a new vision. The church transformed into a “marketplace of encounter”, a hub for social outreach and community engagement. Today, the Heilig-Geist-Kirche stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of renewal, offering a place of solace, connection, and hope.
