Ahnatal’s hidden gem Heckershausen. Its history stretches back to 1106. That’s when the name Hekereshusun first appeared in an Abbey Hersfeld document. Imagine the life in Heckershausen then. A small village nestled near the Habichtswald forest. East of the Rasenallee the historic road between Kassel and Schloss Wilhelmsthal. The Ahne river flowed through the heart of Heckershausen. The river framed by the Staufenberg and Firnskuppe hills. North of the village stood the Stahlberg. Today a grillplatz with hut sits there.

Heckershausen’s name evolved. Heggereshusun in 1107 Hekkereshusun in 1146. Hőckershausen appeared in 1505. The village grew. By 1585 it boasted 31 households. The Kasseler Martinsstift held the church patronage. This remained under landgräflich control after the Reformation.

The church itself is a sight to behold. Its nave rebuilt in the 19th century in historicizing styles. The weather vane on the cupola dates back to 1886. The octagonal bell stage is covered in slate. A three-arched stone railway bridge stands at the southern edge of the village. It carries the Volkmarsen-Vellmar-Obervellmar railway line.

Since 2007 the RegioTram connects Wolfhagen to Kassel’s tram network. The train stops at Heckershausen’s two railway stations. A ride to Kassel takes only about 15 minutes. Heckershausen also has a bus connection. This connects Weimar Kammerberg Heckershausen Vellmar and Kassel. The A 44 and federal highways 7 83 and 251 are easily accessible. Heckershausen celebrated its 900th anniversary in 2006 with a week-long festival.

A village rich in history Heckershausen. A place where the past and present intertwine. A testament to resilience and growth over nine centuries. From humble beginnings to a vibrant part of Ahnatal. Explore Heckershausen and discover its charm for yourself.
