A simple acre of land, sold for a mere $25 in 1890. That’s where our story begins, right here at the Heath Methodist Church Plaque. This plaque commemorates the rich history of the First United Methodist Church of Heath. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of a community and their faith. The church’s journey started with that humble plot of land, purchased by the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. The original structure, a small house of worship known as Bethel Methodist Episcopal Church, South, was built just south of town. Between November 1909 and March 1910, both the congregation and the building itself made the journey to Heath. Imagine the effort involved, moving an entire building! The church settled in its new location, and by 1916, a new structure replaced the original. The plaque details the years of circuit-riding ministers who served the community. These dedicated preachers traveled from church to church, sharing their ministry with various congregations. For the Heath church, this meant having a preacher one Sunday a month. The Heath congregation shared their minister with other churches in the area, including Chisholm, Fate, Williams Chappell, Mt. Zion, Rockwall, and Forney. This system fostered a sense of connection between the different communities. In 1974, the congregation moved into a brand-new building. This marked a significant milestone in their history. Just a few years later, in 1981, they appointed their first full-time pastor. From a small one-acre plot to a thriving congregation with a dedicated pastor, the Heath Methodist Church has come a long way. The Heath Methodist Church Plaque stands as a proud symbol of this enduring legacy.
