The church’s early history is intertwined with the life of Bishop F L Haynes. He was a powerful figure in the Church of God in Christ. His influence extended throughout Texas. In 1973 he played a crucial role in acquiring the property at 2200 South Marsalis Avenue. This location served as the state headquarters for a time. It would eventually become home to Saintsville Sanctuary.
Bishop Haynes’s son J Neaul Haynes became a significant leader. He followed in his father’s footsteps. He rose to become the Prelate of Texas Northeast First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction. It was under his leadership that the merging of Wheatley and Haynes Chapel took place. They formed Saintsville Sanctuary. The merger symbolized a union. It united two congregations into one strong family.
After Bishop J Neaul Haynes’ passing in 2015 the church continued its mission. Superintendent J E Hornsby took over as pastor. He was later elevated to episcopacy. Haynes Chapel’s legacy of faith community and service continues to this day. It remains an essential part of the fabric of Dallas.
