Did that stately building always stand here? This is Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies. While the current structure might be relatively new, Haynes Academy boasts a rich history dating back to 1909. Did you know Haynes Academy wasn’t always known by this name? It began its journey as Metairie Ridge School, a humble one-room schoolhouse. As the years passed and the community grew, so did the school, eventually becoming Metairie High School in 1929. Haynes Academy even served as a middle school for a period! It was once known as Vernon C. Haynes Middle School, named after a beloved former principal. The school transitioned to Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies in 2006, finally becoming the institution we see today. Over the years, Haynes Academy has relocated, even sharing a campus with Grace King High School at one point. But one thing has remained constant throughout its transformations the unwavering spirit of the Yellow Jackets, the school’s mascot. Today, Haynes Academy stands as a testament to its legacy of academic excellence, a beacon of opportunity for driven students.
