The doors of Hayes School have witnessed decades of learning and growth. Standing tall on West Common Road, Hayes School is more than just a place of education; it’s a cornerstone of the community. Founded in 1956, Hayes School began as a boys-only institution housed in a historic Victorian mansion called Gadsden. Over time, the school opened its doors to girls, transitioning into the co-educational institution we see today. The building itself is a testament to the school’s evolution, expanding from its original Gadsden home to include multiple blocks, each dedicated to different subjects and functions. You can see the school’s A block, dedicated to Science, and B block, where Art and Design Technology flourish. Then there’s C block, boasting a state-of-the-art library – a unique feature for London when it opened in 2003 – and a flourishing music department. In 2006, the L block was added, marking the fiftieth anniversary of the school with a grand fair and fundraising event. In the summer of 2010, the M block opened, adding even more space for English, Mathematics, Media, and Drama. Hayes School continues to evolve, ensuring students have access to the best resources and opportunities for their futures. In 2011, the school took on academy status, granting it greater freedom and independence from the local authority. From the grand Gadsden mansion to the modern M block, Hayes School stands as a testament to the power of knowledge and community. And its journey is far from over.
