Hawthorne House. A name whispered with reverence among London’s architectural circles. Here, on Upper Terrace, stands a testament to transformation and craftsmanship. This isn’t the Hawthorne House of Stratford’s student accommodations. Nor is it the care facility by the same name. This Hawthorne House is a haven in De Beauvoir, a hidden gem completed in February 2021. The architects, Bradley Van Der Straeten, envisioned a space that honored simple craftsmanship and the creative spirits of its inhabitants. The firm, along with structural engineers from Symmetrys, Optimal Build contractors, and Quadrant inspectors, brought this vision to life. In 2022, their work won the British Homes Award for Transformation of the Year. Imagine stepping into a garden oasis in the heart of London. Hawthorne House isn’t just a building; it’s a celebration of design. The unadorned aesthetic highlights the inherent beauty of the materials. It allows the personalities of those who live within its walls to shine through.
