Gazing at Haus Mindestroemmen, one might wonder about the lives it has sheltered. Haus Mindestroemmen stands in Bremen’s Schnoor district. This charming area is Bremen’s oldest district. The house itself dates back to 1630. Originally built on the banks of the Klosterbalge, a tributary of the Weser River, Haus Mindestroemmen has seen centuries of Bremen’s history unfold. Its original truss, with beams potentially 400 years old, speaks to the enduring craftsmanship of the time. Unlike other Schnoor buildings, Haus Mindestroemmen’s truss is filled with stones, a sign of the original owner’s wealth. In the 19th century, Haus Mindestroemmen transformed into an inn. It offered weary travelers food and lodging. Later, in the 20th century, it housed a boat supply and grocery business. Theodor Dahle, a former owner, even established a private museum within its walls around 1975, showcasing a replica of a historic restaurant. The museum remained largely unchanged, preserving a glimpse into the past. More recently, artists found a home in Haus Mindestroemmen. From 2011 to 2012, the ground floor became a gallery, showcasing works from Bremen and Worpswede. The house has changed hands many times. In 1878, innkeeper Heinrich Lohmann purchased the house. It later passed through a family legacy before being bought by Theodor Dahle in 1919. Even former German Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher once visited Haus Mindestroemmen, drawn to its unique charm. Today, Haus Mindestroemmen stands as a testament to Bremen’s rich history, a silent observer of the city’s evolution.
