Originally named Blackwell School, Hatch End High School opened its doors in 1948 or 1949. In 1953, the Great Hall was completed. This hall became a central part of school life. It hosts assemblies and school productions. The Great Hall can seat 600 people.
In 1974, Blackwell School was renamed Hatch End High School. This marked a new chapter in the school’s history. In 1995, Hatch End’s grounds became a film set. The TV series “The Demon Headmaster” was filmed here. Students were invited to be extras.
The school continued to grow and evolve. The Round House drama center opened in 2004. Hatch End Sixth Form was established in 2006. A new Sixth Form building opened in 2010. Gareth Thomas, a local politician and alumnus, inaugurated it. Hatch End High School gained academy status in 2011. A floodlit AstroTurf pitch called M.U.G.A. opened in 2013.
Hatch End Radio Studio opened in 2014. Students hosted a radio station during breaks. Staff members Chris Firth and Richard Parker set a world record. Their radio show lasted 74 hours.
A new school building opened in 2019. It was part of the Priority Schools Building Programme. The main block is three stories high. It houses classrooms and specialized rooms.
Hatch End High School is a single academy trust school. It forms part of the Harrow collegiate Sixth Form. The school plays a role in other academy trusts too.
