Rising high above the rooftops, its silhouette a familiar sight for many Aarhus residents, stands the Hasle Vandtårn. A giant concrete mushroom, it’s a landmark in the city’s landscape, holding within its cylindrical belly, a vast reserve of water, ensuring that taps run in many homes. The Hasle Vandtårn, built in 1970, is the only one in Aarhus still in operation. Its distinctive shape, inspired by the famous “Svampen” water tower in Sweden, was a popular choice for water towers in the 1950s. With a capacity of 2100 cubic meters, it silently stands guard, a constant presence in the city’s everyday life.
