“School bell rings!” Imagine that sound echoing through the halls of Hasle Skole. It’s a sound that has resonated here for generations. Hasle Skole is more than just a building. It’s a cornerstone of the Hasle community.
Today we explore Hasle Skole. It’s a place with a history stretching back centuries. The school’s story began long before the buildings we see today.
Let’s journey back to December 4 1743. Balthazar Lagesen became the local church official. The first school building was built by Johan Arent Althalt. It stood east of Viborgvej south of Hasle Kirke.
Even earlier in 1724 Niels Isachsen Schanderborg became the permanent church official. Before him a traveling teacher from Aarhus Katedralskole taught in the area. Where they taught remains a mystery.
The original schoolhouse was replaced in 1859. That first school was described in 1813 as dark dirty and unworthy. The new building stood where the inspector’s residence is today. It served until 1917 and then became a teacher’s residence.
The school building from 1917 was designed by architect S. Knudsen Sørensen. In 1929 it was extended eastward. A school and gym wing was added facing Herredsvej in 1940. That same year the school became a seven-grade school. By 1950 it included middle and high school levels.
During the German occupation starting in 1943 the Germans used parts of the school. From 1944 to 1945 they used the entire school. Classes were moved to Haslegård. A lasting mark from the occupation is the school’s color. The Germans painted it black. The yellow brick from 1940 couldn’t be cleaned. It had to be painted white.
Hasle Skole reached its peak enrollment in the 1970s with around 1000 students. To reduce overcrowding Ellekærskolen was built. It opened in 1973 but wasn’t fully completed until 1979.
Today Hasle Skole is a thriving school. It has around 761 students in 34 classes. The school has a swimming pool a gym and a nature area. Outside there are ball fields playgrounds and running tracks. Hasle Skole continues to evolve. It adapts to meet the needs of its students and the community.
From its humble beginnings in 1743 to its current form Hasle Skole has been a vital part of Hasle. Its walls hold countless stories of students teachers and a community growing together. As we leave Hasle Skole remember its rich history. It’s a history built on education community and resilience.
