Diyanet İşleri Başkanı Ali Erbaş led the first Friday prayer. He emphasized the importance of mosques as the most blessed of places. He spoke of the pride felt by Muslims worldwide knowing Turkey has 90,000 mosques. Ümraniye Mayor İsmet Yıldırım highlighted the mosque’s transformative impact on the neighborhood. He quoted a hadith about the reward for building a mosque for Allah’s pleasure. He described the mosque as a beacon of light.
