Stolen! The Hanover cannon, a relic of the Crimean War, vanished from the Auckland waterfront. This brazen theft, involving a crane, shocked Aucklanders. The Hanover cannon, gifted to New Zealand after the Crimean War, held immense historical significance. It was one of only ten cannons cast in 1817 in Lugansk, Ukraine. The cannon arrived in Auckland on March 17, 1859. The Hanover cannon had a journey through Auckland. It was displayed in Albert Park, relocated to Okahu Bay during World War II, then back to Albert Park. Finally, the council entrusted it to the Royal Akarana Yacht Club in Okahu Bay.
