What if words could shape a space? Here at Halv dobbeltfrise, they do. Halv dobbeltfrise isn’t your typical statue. It’s a ceramic frieze, a blend of text and space created by Anders Bonnesen in 2006. It’s part of a larger art project here in Østerhøj, Ballerup. The words etched into Halv dobbeltfrise are taken from the assembly instructions of a moving box. On the outer side, as you approach the square, the text encourages a sense of unity, a coming together. But step inside the square, and the words shift perspective. They offer a more open invitation. They beckon you to connect with the surrounding landscape. Halv dobbeltfrise embodies a question for the residents of Østerhøj. Can the built environment and the natural world truly intertwine? This sculpture is more than just words on ceramic. It’s a conversation with the landscape, a reflection on the space we inhabit, and an invitation to consider our place within it. Halv dobbeltfrise stands alongside other ceramic works, all created by students from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Each piece is site-specific, designed to resonate with this particular place and its people. They are Annie, Bibo, Vandringer, Knappen, Linjen, and Fuglebad. Together, they transform Østerhøj into an outdoor gallery. They invite us to pause, to reflect, and to engage with art in unexpected places.
