The railway station in Hallam was once known as Hallam’s Road Railway Station and it was the center of a small community. William Hallam arrived in the area in the 1850s. He established a pub on the corner of Gippsland Road, and the intersection was nicknamed ‘Hallam’s Road’. By the 1880s, the railway line from Melbourne to Gippsland was built. This led to the establishment of a station, which was also called Hallam’s Road Railway Station. Over time, both the road and the station shortened their name to Hallam. Hallam was once a rural community, but it has since grown into a modern suburb.
