Ever wondered what it feels like to stand before a mosque that has witnessed centuries unfold? Here at Hacı Ali Uyaroğlu Cami you are standing before just such a place.

Hacı Ali Uyaroğlu Cami stands as a testament to Antalya’s rich history. It is a place where different eras and cultures have converged. The Yivli Minaret Mosque, also known as Alaaddin Mosque, is a historical mosque. It was built by the Anatolian Seljuk Sultan Kayqubad I.

Originally constructed in 1230 the Yivli Minaret Mosque has undergone significant transformations. The first building was built around 1225-7 during the reign of the Seljuk sultan Ala ad-Din Kay Qubadh I. The original mosque was destroyed in the 14th century. A new mosque was built in 1373 by the Hamidids on the foundation of a Byzantine church.

Its fluted minaret, the Yivli Minare, is a symbol of the city. The mosque is located in Kaleiçi along Cumhuriyet Caddesi. It stands next to Kalekapısı Meydanı. The minaret is decorated with dark blue tiles. It is a landmark.

The 38-metre high minaret stands tall. It is a free-standing structure. Built on a square stone base, it features eight fluted sections. Ninety steps lead to the top offering stunning views.

With its six domes, the Yivli Minaret Mosque is one of the oldest examples of multi-dome construction in Anatolia. The mosque is part of a külliye a complex of structures. This includes the Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev Medrese, Seljuk and Dervish lodge, and the vaults of Zincirkıran and Nigar Hatun.

The mosque’s minaret is a unique example of Anatolian Turkish Architecture. The minaret was commissioned by Alaaddin Keykubad I. He ruled between 1220 and 1237. He commissioned many important buildings in Anatolia during his reign.

After Antalya was conquered by the Anatolian Seljuks in 1226 the Yivli Minaret Mosque was built in 1230. It was built using walls of a ruined old church. This shows the continuity of beliefs in this region.

The minaret was restored in 1953 and 1961. Its spire was renewed in 1973. The prayer hall was restored in 2010. Ancient water channels were found under the mosque during restoration. A transparent section was prepared on the floor to showcase these channels.

Today the Yivli Minaret’s image is used in Antalya’s touristic materials. It even serves as the logo for the city’s football team. The mosque distinguishes itself with its high fluted minaret form.

Standing here before Hacı Ali Uyaroğlu Cami you are not just seeing a building. You are experiencing a living piece of Antalya’s soul. A place where history whispers and architectural beauty captivates.
