Established in 1907 the Gustav-Stresemann-Wirtschaftsschule stands proudly before you. Its history is rich and varied. Initially a one-year commercial school for boys it found its first permanent home in the Domus Universitas in 1922. World War II tragically interrupted its operation. The school remained closed for three years. It reopened on April 15 1947 under the leadership of Herr Dörr.

The Gustav-Stresemann-Wirtschaftsschule then found a home in the Mainz Citadel in 1958. Its space there quickly proved insufficient. The school expanded from a one-year to a two-year program. A higher commercial school and then a business school were added. Eventually a business gymnasium emerged as part of educational reforms. By 1964 the Citadel’s space was entirely inadequate.

The school temporarily used temporary barrack buildings. It later moved to the Doppelkompaniekaserne. Even this proved too small. Finally in 1999 the Gustav-Stresemann-Wirtschaftsschule moved to its current location. It is a former IBM building. This building is perfectly suited to the school’s needs.

The school’s name itself holds significance. The choice to name it after Gustav Stresemann was no accident. His work at the 1929 Hague Conference was especially important for Mainz. France agreed then to the early end of Rhineland occupation on June 30 1930. The school proudly carries his name since 1964.

The Gustav-Stresemann-Wirtschaftsschule played a pivotal role in education. It was one of the first commercial schools in the region. It also housed the first business school and business gymnasium in Rheinland-Pfalz. Its commitment to foreign languages reflects Stresemann’s international focus. The school continues to thrive. It offers high quality education in business related studies. It has a long history of excellence. It plays a vital role in the Mainz community.
