Why is Gurudwara Sahib Tarneit so important to the Sikh community of Western Victoria? It all began back in 1998, with a spark of faith and a longing for community. The Sikh community in Werribee started holding their weekend gatherings, finding solace and shared spirituality in rented church spaces. This desire for a permanent place of worship led to the formation of the Werribee Sikh Community (WSC) in 1999. Their dream began to take shape in 2001. The Sikh Community of Western Victoria (SCWV) was established at 12 Synnot Street in Werribee. This marked the first significant step towards a dedicated Gurudwara. In 2008, with the collective efforts and contributions of the Sangat, a larger piece of land at 560 Davis Road in Tarneit was acquired. Gurudwara Sahib Tarneit, as it stands today, became the heart of the Sikh community in Western Victoria. It’s more than just a building. It’s a testament to the community’s dedication, perseverance, and their unwavering faith.
