High above the Walgau valley stands Gurtisspitze. A simple summit cross marks its peak. From here the panorama is breathtaking. The Bodensee shimmers in the distance. The Rheintal valley stretches out below.

Gurtisspitze is a 1778-meter high mountain. It’s part of the Rhaetikon mountain range. More specifically it belongs to the Galina group. The mountain is easily recognizable. A longer more challenging tour includes other peaks. This tour takes eight to twelve hours. This one is for experienced hikers only. Trittsicherheit and Schwindelfreiheit are essential. Good footwear is a must.
