In 2015, Maltepe Municipality held a competition. The goal was to design a religious and cultural complex for Alevis. Melike Altınışık and Gül Ertekin were finalists. They envisioned a space that balanced tradition and modernity. Their design aimed to meet the needs of the Alevi community. It also reflected their values of humanism and connection with nature.
The winning design was by A70 Architecture. The architects created a space that embodies Alevi beliefs. The entrance features a wide gate representing Sharia. A narrower gate symbolizes the path to enlightenment. Inside the main prayer hall represents a microcosm of the universe. It has a life tree symbolizing Hakk and the Twelve Imams.
