Along with Campbell and Kofoid he pioneered the application of this microplankton to Jurassic and Cretaceous stratigraphy. The modern classification of Calpionellidae and Colomiellidae honors his name.

Despite working independently he gained recognition. He became a member of prestigious organizations like the Real Academia de Ciencias Exactas Físicas y Naturales the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas and the Société Géologique de France. His influence in Latin America was particularly significant. The University of the Balearic Islands even named a building after him. A building where his scientific legacy continues.
