“Overgrown” is the first word that comes to mind about Grove Phoenix. It was a productive Freshstart garden. Then it lay neglected for three years. The Grove gardens took over in November 2022. Now, we work to resurrect it.
Grove Phoenix sits at Harrison Gardens and Harrison Place. It is on the north side of Harrison Park West. This garden is likely to be developed soon. But until autumn 2024, we hope to use it.
What will you see at Grove Phoenix? There is a herb garden at the front. This space is also decorative. The side is mostly lawn. The large back garden holds growing beds. We mostly plant vegetables here.
As we explore, you will uncover fruit bushes. You might even spot a fruit tree.
The Grove Phoenix is more than just a garden. It is one of four gardens. Grove Viewforth sits near the Union Canal. Grove Printmakers is in Edinburgh Printmakers’ courtyard. Grove in the Park is at Harrison Park’s east end. Members belong to all the gardens. But they often choose one based on location.
Our main goal is growing produce. We also work with community groups. We promote community gardening’s benefits. This supports local social and environmental improvement.
How can you help at Grove Phoenix? We hold weekly gardening sessions. These are on Thursday mornings. But members can come anytime. Help keep the garden weeded. Water when needed. We especially want nearby residents to join.
At Grove Phoenix, we grow in the ground. This is different from other Grove gardens. Grove in the Park has planters. Grove Viewforth emphasizes vegetables in planters. Printmakers is a courtyard garden.
Grove in the Park is our oldest garden. It has flowers, herbs, vegetables, and fruit bushes. Grove Viewforth focuses on bountiful edibles. Grove Phoenix is bringing new life to this space.
The rewards of gardening are many. You share in the harvest. You gain social benefits. Your well-being improves. You learn new skills.
Grove Phoenix is a place of rebirth. It transforms neglected spaces. It welcomes gardens. Plants and people thrive here together.
