In the heart of Saxony lies a village shrouded in the mists of time. Großschkorlopp, a name whispered on the winds of history. First mentioned as a manor in 1097, Großschkorlopp later transformed into a Vorwerk, a type of agricultural estate. We stand today in the presence of its legacy. The year 1950 marked a significant moment for Großschkorlopp. It merged with its smaller sibling, Kleinschkorlopp, to form a single entity simply known as Schkorlopp. This union brought together a population of 471 souls. However, this new identity was relatively short-lived. In 1994, Schkorlopp, including Großschkorlopp, became part of the larger community of Kitzen. Despite these changes, the spirit of Großschkorlopp endures. Its name echoes through time, a testament to its long history. The population dwindled over the years. From 471 in 1950, it dropped to 349 in 1964 and further down to 270 by 1990. These numbers tell a story of change, of families moving on and new generations finding their place elsewhere. Yet, the essence of Großschkorlopp remains, woven into the fabric of the land and the memories of those who once called it home.
