Today, Gross Park stands as a testament to his legacy. The park is a shared responsibility between the Chicago Park District and the Gross Park Neighbors Foundation. This collaboration highlights the community’s commitment to preserving this green oasis. Over the years, Gross Park has faced its share of challenges. In 1998, the invasive Asian long-horned beetle threatened the park’s trees. The community rallied, and through the combined efforts of the Chicago Park District and the Gross Park Neighbors Foundation, a restoration project began in 1999. New life was breathed into the park with the planting of various trees, shrubs, and perennials. Today, when you stroll along the winding paths of Gross Park, remember Samuel Eberly Gross.
