Is that a zebra with longer legs? That, my friends, is a Grevy’s Zebra, the largest of all zebra species! Currently, Edinburgh Zoo is home to four Grevy’s Zebras: Azizi, Grace, Daniella, and the newest addition, Oberon. Oberon arrived from Chessington World of Adventures as part of a breeding program to help boost the population of these endangered animals. He’ll be here for a while, hopefully romancing Azizi and Grace, before returning to Chessington at the end of the year. Did you know that a Grevy’s Zebra can survive for five days without water? That’s one tough zebra! They are native to Ethiopia and Kenya but sadly, due to hunting and habitat loss, there are less than 2,000 left in the wild. So, take a good look at these majestic creatures. They are not just stripes on hooves, but a symbol of the wild beauty that we are striving to protect.
