Wondering about the secret behind this building? This is the Gregor József Általános Iskola in Budapest. It is more than just a school. It is a place with a story.

Over time, the school changed its name. It was first named Fackh Téri Általános Iskola. This name came from the square where it was located. As the square’s name changed, so did the school’s. It became Hősök Terei Általános Iskola.

A significant moment came in 1956. The Gregor József Általános Iskola started its special music program. This program became famous. After several attempts to find a new name, the school finally settled on Gregor József Általános Iskola in 2007. This decision honored József Gregor. He passed away that same year. The name change took effect on September 1 2007.

József Gregor was a famous Hungarian opera singer. He was born in Rákosliget. This is the same area where the school is. He enjoyed success in Hungary and beyond. He sang in France, Belgium, Canada and the United States. Gregor was known for his bass voice.

At the Gregor József Általános Iskola, each year sees new classes starting. There are usually three or four parallel classes A, B, and Z. Class Z focuses on singing and music. It has a history of over 50 years. The A and B classes follow a general curriculum in the lower grades. In the upper grades, they offer advanced math B and humanities A programs.

Students can learn English or German starting in the 4th grade. The classes are divided into smaller groups for better learning. The school’s music program is highly respected. In 2014, students from the music program performed with Robbie Williams. They joined him at his concert in Budapest.

The Gregor József Általános Iskola holds several important events. These include the school year opening in late August or early September. Gregor Day is celebrated on the first Saturday of October. There is also a Christmas concert and an end-of-year concert. The students also enjoy a Student Day. A musical performance showcases their talents. Graduation usually takes place around June 15th. The school year concludes shortly after graduation.

So, the Gregor József Általános Iskola stands as a testament to education. It also honors a celebrated opera singer. Its walls echo with history. It is also filled with music. The Gregor József Általános Iskola is a cornerstone of the community.
