They organized the Greater Saint Mark Missionary Baptist Church. The church has grown dramatically over the years. In 1917, a simple wood frame church was built, complete with a baptismal pool and a bell tower that could be heard throughout the neighborhood. Over time, the church would be rebuilt three more times before the current structure, which was completed in 1995. It is a beautiful and spacious church with a modern sanctuary, a family life center, and a large education center. One of the most inspiring aspects of the church’s history occurred in 1962 when the church was destroyed by fire. It was a devastating loss for the congregation. But they rallied together to rebuild. In nine short months, the church was brought back to life. It is a testament to the incredible resilience of the church family.
