Greater Power House Church of God in Christ

From a seed of faith planted in 1971, the Greater Power House Church of God in Christ blossomed. It began as a small mission on Fitch Street in the Buckingham addition of Houston. Elder Robert J. Anderson heeded a call to establish this church. Superintendent R. L. Norton, the founder of Norton Temple Church of God in Christ, dedicated the mission. During the dedication, a curious moment unfolded. When asked about the church’s name, Elder Anderson intended to call it Bethany. However, the words “Greater Power House Church of God in Christ” spontaneously emerged. The name stuck, carrying a promise of divine blessing. The Greater Power House Church of God in Christ initially consisted mainly of Elder Anderson’s family and a few devoted charter members. A revival took place the following Tuesday, sparking growth. The congregation expanded rapidly. Elder Anderson, recognizing this growth, prayed for guidance. He envisioned a larger sanctuary. The church acquired land on Hirsch Road. Through hard work and fundraising, the new Greater Power House Church of God in Christ became a reality. The church continued to thrive. In 2005, groundbreaking for further expansion took place on 14 acres in the Bammel-North Houston area. Sadly, in 2007, Elder Anderson passed away. Pastor Johnny A. Tates took the helm, leading the Greater Power House Church of God in Christ into a new era. Under his leadership, the church welcomed over 100 new members in just 18 months. The Greater Power House Church of God in Christ stands as a testament to faith, perseverance, and community. It continues to serve and uplift its community.
