“Greater New Hope – a place of refuge and transformation.” These words greeted us as we entered the sanctuary, the air thick with the scent of incense and the promise of hope. Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, a beacon of faith in Dallas, stands as a testament to resilience and unwavering devotion.
Founded in 1984 by Reverend W.E. Nesbitt, the church was born from a dream. Reverend Nesbitt, inspired by a divine vision, saw a future where faith would conquer adversity. The congregation, small at first, met in the pastor’s basement. But they yearned for a permanent home, a place to gather in unity and worship freely. Driven by faith and determination, Reverend Nesbitt sought land to build a sanctuary, a place where devotion could flourish. His journey was fraught with challenges, but his unwavering commitment and the support of community members proved a potent force. In 1985, Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church found a home, a concrete symbol of their faith and dedication.
The congregation, full of love and strength, embraced the motto “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” They knew that their journey was a testament to God’s guidance, and each triumph was a reminder of His powerful embrace. Reverend Nesbitt, their shepherd, led with wisdom and humility until his passing in 1989. The church family, guided by the Lord, sought a new leader, a shepherd to nurture their faith and guide their path. In 1993, Reverend Dennis Smith arrived, his commitment to the simple teachings of scripture resonating deeply with the congregation. He was elected as their pastor in 1994, a testament to the unity and devotion within the church.
