Greater Mount Olive Church of God in Christ exists to edify encourage exalt and equip its body of believers. The mission is to become like Christ and to evangelize non-believers throughout the world. This should be done in a way that is socially relevant and doctrinally unadulterated to increase the Kingdom of Jesus Christ.
The vision of Greater Mount Olive Church of God in Christ is to be a dynamic church. It wants to be empowered by the Holy Spirit. The aim is to edify believers to action by sharing the Gospel of Christ with as many people as possible in our circle of influence, community, and throughout the world.
Greater Mount Olive Church of God in Christ believes in one living and true God. This God is an infinite intelligent Spirit, whose name is Jehovah. He is the Maker and Supreme Ruler of heaven and earth. He is inexpressibly glorious in holiness. He is worthy of all possible praise honor and love. In the unity of the Godhead there are three persons: the Father the Son and the Holy Ghost. They are equal in every divine perfection, and executing distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption.
The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired. Greater Mount Olive Church of God in Christ believes that it has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth without any mixture of error for its matter.
Greater Mount Olive Church of God in Christ believes that the salvation of sinners is wholly of grace through faith. Jesus Christ is the Son of God. By the appointment of the Father, he freely took upon him our nature, yet without sin. He honored the divine law by his personal obedience. By his death he made a full atonement for our sins. Having risen from the dead, he is now enthroned in heaven, sitting at the right hand of the Father.
Christian baptism is the immersion in water of a believer. It is done in the name of the Father the Son and the Holy Ghost. It shows forth in a solemn and beautiful emblem, our faith in the crucified, buried, and risen Savior. Greater Mount Olive Church of God in Christ believes we should observe the Lord’s Supper. In it the members of the church use bread and wine. They commemorate together the sufferings and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. This is always preceded by solemn self-examination.
Once a sinner receives the new birth, he or she should assemble regularly with other believers. They should join in corporate worship praise study and service to the glory of God. It edifies the body of Christ, His church. The members may grow into an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
Rev. Lionell Alexander is pastor of Greater Mount Olive Church of God in Christ. His objective is to serve in an effort to foster the ideals of the New Testament church. His aim is to oversee Greater Mount Olive as it strives to be a lively energetic and joyful congregation in worship and praise to God.
Pastor Alexander believes Greater Mount Olive’s purpose is to edify the Body of Christ. It should be a light in the community. There men women and children may seek the answer to the question, “What must I do to be saved?” He also endeavors to provide the Greater Mount Olive members the opportunity to give of their time talent and treasure. He wants them to be faithful stewards in service to God.
Sis. Sherva Alexander is the First Lady of Greater Mount Olive Church of God in Christ. She has been a great support to her husband, as pastor, as well as in many other ministries within the church. Sherva has used her many talents as the director of our Vacation Bible School, Women’s Sunday School teacher, and overseer of the behind the scenes work to maintain our social media pages and website.
Today Greater Mount Olive Church of God in Christ stands as a testament to faith. It is a center for community engagement and spiritual growth.
