In 2010 the Greater House of God faced an unexpected challenge. Pastor Galen Leverette received a call. He was told he could no longer use the church building. The locks had been changed. Yet the spirit of the congregation remained unbroken.
Undeterred Pastor Leverette secured a temporary space. The annex of the Cosmopolitan Church of Prayer became the new home of Greater House of God. For four years services continued there. The church thrived. It wasn’t easy. False allegations and rumors circulated. But the faith of the congregation remained strong. Prophet Johnson’s prophecy became their guiding light. The church flourished. Sunday school classes weekly worship services weddings funerals and numerous other events filled the annex. A monthly newsletter and telephone outreach kept members connected. Support poured in from pastors across the country.
After years of prayer fundraising and tireless searching the Greater House of God received its 501c3 status in 2013. This was a crucial step. It allowed them to pursue their dream of a permanent home. Finally in 2014 Greater House of God found its current location at 700 East 111th Street in Chicago. The move marked a momentous occasion. It was a victory celebrated by countless individuals who had played a role in the church’s journey.
