Greater Friendship Baptist Church was founded on August 9 1987. A few individuals met at the home of Rev J. L. Goff Sr. They wanted to have prayer and worship. This group continued to meet. After following the proper procedure, the church was organized. The name chosen was Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Goff felt a need for a church. It would dedicate itself to Christ’s command. This is recorded in Matthew 28:19-20.

The founding members included Rev D. R. Wedderburn. Other members were Bro. Lonnie L. Johnson and Bro. Curtis Thornton. Sis. Faye Durden and Sis. Hattie Johnson were also founding members. Sis. Lucille Goff and two children completed the group. They were Johnny L. Goff Jr. and Kerri D. Goff. Rev. J. L. Goff Sr. was the organizer and first pastor.

Greater Friendship Church first met in Rev. Goff’s home. Later, they leased a small building. It was at 14055 Dublin Street. In 1990, by God’s grace, they purchased this location. The congregation stepped out on faith. God moved mightily in his people. He blessed this small group. There were less than 40 members. In 1999, they built and occupied the sanctuary. This is where they currently meet.

The Greater Friendship family continues in their faith in Jesus Christ. They are under the direction of Pastor Johnny L. Goff Sr. They remain committed to their theme. That theme is winning the lost at any cost.

Greater Friendship Church offers many ministries. These include worship, congregational care, and discipleship. Next Gen, adult ministries, and operations are also included. Evangelism and outreach are important. Committees also play a role.

Giving is a part of following Jesus. Greater Friendship Church believes in giving. This includes giving of yourself through ministries. Ministries include the choir and drama team. Media and ushers are also important. Greeters make everyone feel welcome.
